scars

Scars are blemishes left on the body from damage to the skin from cuts, acne, wounds, or surgery. The board-certified dermatologists at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania use advanced techniques, including laser treatment, to effectively remove scars with expert precision.

When trauma from an injury, surgery, or infection damages your skin, your body forms scars to heal itself. As your body repairs damage, new tissue starts to naturally form, which results in scarring on the skin’s surface. Although most new scars are pink in color, they can lighten or darken over time. Scars tend to lay flat on top of your skin, but some can appear raised or depressed once the skin heals.

Minor scarring may not be cause for concern for most individuals. However, more advanced scarring can negatively impact your self-esteem and overall quality of life. If you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable in social situations due to visible scars, Jordan V. Wang, MD, MBE, MBA and his team of board-certified dermatologists can offer a number of non-surgical solutions at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania.

Our 8,000+ sq. ft. dermatology center in the greater Philadelphia area on the Main Line in Devon is home to brand new, state-of-the-art laser and energy-based devices, the most advanced procedures, and top talent in the field of dermatology.

Dr. Wang completed his cosmetic and dermatologic surgery fellowship training under esteemed dermatologist Roy G. Geronemus, MD at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York in Manhattan. During his training, Dr. Wang contributed to extensive medical research in non-invasive laser treatments. As a result, our board-certified dermatologists are specially trained to treat all types of scars, including acne scars, brown scars, red scars, depressed scars, white scars, surgical scars, and raised scars.

What are the treatments for scars?

At Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania, our reputable dermatologists use a variety of laser devices to minimize the appearance of scars. Some of the laser and energy-based device treatments we offer include:

are there treatments for acne scars?

With the evolution of laser and energy-based technology, we offer a wide selection of non-invasive treatments for acne scars. Many of our patients report visible improvements in the color and texture of their acne scars following treatment. While there is no complete cure for acne scars, laser and energy-based therapy has the power to target the pigment and uneven texture of these lesions without harming the surrounding skin.

Our experienced dermatologists customize every acne scar treatment to each patient. The type of device we use, how many treatments you need, and how long your sessions are depend on the size, location, and type of scar you have. Whether you have red, raised, sunken, or hyperpigmented acne scars, our devices are safe and effective at treating all skin tones, including darker skin.

Common laser and energy-based device treatments our dermatologists use for acne scars include:

  • Fraxel Dual
  • Clear + Brilliant Touch
  • PicoPlus
  • Infini Genius Radiofrequency Microneedling

what is the fasa technique?

The FASA technique utilizes dermal fillers along with laser resurfacing to improve the appearance of certain scars. Juvederm®, Sculptra®, and Belotero® are just a few types of fillers that our dermatologists can superficially inject into the surface layers of your skin to treat both depressed and elevated scars, even on the chest and shoulders.

faq

Q: Which Scar Treatment Is Right For Me?

A: Evey treatment at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Pennsylvania is custom designed to meet each patient’s unique needs. During your initial consultation, one of our board-certified dermatologists can recommend the best treatment, or combination of treatments, for your skin.

Q: When Will I See Results From Scar Treatment?

A: While results vary from patient to patient, you may see noticeable improvements in the appearance of your scar in as little as 2 weeks after treatment. Peak results typically arrive about 1-3 months after you complete your treatment plan.

Q: Are Results From Scar Treatment Permanent?

A: In short, yes. Once your scar disappears, it cannot return. To maintain the tone and texture of your skin, our dermatologists may recommend touch-up treatments or modifications to your skin care regimen.

Q: How Much Does Scar Treatment Cost?

A: The price of scar treatment varies widely, depending on the number of scars you have, their severity and location, and the type of device used. Your dermatologist can better estimate the full cost of your treatment at your initial consultation.
